Engineering Operative – Harvest at G's Group
Overview
We are looking for an Engineering Operative within our harvesting operations to support the Engineering Team in delivering timely and effective technical services across all harvest operations. The Engineering Technician plays a key role in minimising downtime, maintaining equipment reliability, and ensuring production targets and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out all work to the highest standard, following company procedures and engineering best practices.
* Maintain a strong focus on quality, safety, and compliance in all engineering tasks.
* Liaise with the Engineering Team Leader to prioritise tasks in a way that minimises disruption to production.
* Respond swiftly to breakdowns and support production continuity.
* Stay up to date with new technologies, techniques, and legislation relevant to the role.
* Identify and request training opportunities to maintain and enhance technical competence.
* Proactively identify opportunities to improve departmental systems, safety, efficiency, and reliability.
* Contribute ideas and practical solutions that enhance engineering and operational performance.
* Participate in ad-hoc engineering projects, including the design and fabrication of bespoke equipment or components.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
* Share technical knowledge and experience with colleagues to develop team capability.
* Take ownership of personal development through learning from others and seeking new skills.
* Monitor and maintain stock levels of commonly used parts to ensure continuous operational readiness.
* Order, store, and manage equipment and parts responsibly, ensuring safe handling and cost‑effective usage.
* Uphold company standards of hygiene, safety, and workplace organisation.
* Maintain all personal tools and equipment in excellent working order, reporting any repair needs promptly.
* Provide technical advice and support to third‑party or off‑site packers as required.
* Attend external sites when necessary to assist with machinery breakdowns and minimise downtime.

* Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
* Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Hours
Seasonal: Summer – approximately 60 hours per week, comprised of 12‑hour shifts, Sunday to Thursday or Tuesday to Saturday, based on a 6am to 6pm start and finish time. Winter – up to 55 hours per week.
