Main duties of the job
* The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels.
* Assisting healthcare professionals in providing high-quality patient care.
* Conducting new patient health checks, measurements, and routine tests.
* Supporting patients with various healthcare needs, such as wound care, blood pressures, ECGs working within your scope of practice.
* Ear irrigation when trained under the supervision of the Practice Nurse.
* Support the Practice Nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics.
* When trained, administer B12 injections.
* Maintaining accurate patient records and assisting with administrative tasks as required.
* Upholding infection control standards and ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients.
* Carry out BMI checks as directed.
* Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transport.
* Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
* Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance.
* Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisation's IPC policy.
* Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.

Qualifications
* 1. GCSE grade A-C in English and Maths or equivalent
* 2. Experience of working with the general public
* 3. Experience of working in a healthcare setting
* 4. Ability to record on clinical notes
* 5. Excellent communication skills and including excellent IT skills
* 6. Effective time management
* 7. Ability to work as a team and autonomously
* 8. Good interpersonal skills
* 9. Ability to follow clinical policy
* 10. Polite and confident with a flexible approach. A self‑motivated individual who has excellent problem‑solving skills.
* 11. Operates with high integrity and loyalty
* 12. Commitment to ongoing professional development
* 13. Punctual and committed member of the team
* 14. Ability to work under pressure
* You will be expected to undertake a DBS check.
* 1. Ideally you will have completed the HCA Care Certificate
* 2. Experience of working in Primary Care
* 3. Have undertaken wound care and suture removal training
* 4. Competent in the use of Microsoft Office and Outlook
* 5. Experience in EMIS
* 6. Flexibility where required to work outside of core hours
