What is the role?
Southampton Football Club is offering two exciting MSc Placement opportunities. The successful candidates will engage in a placement, working as a Player Recruitment analyst within the Technical Recruitment department to support the work across First team and Academy.
This role is based on students undertaking a sports science related degree at Master’s level that permits a placement year and is to be line managed by the Head of Recruitment Analysis.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for candidates who can be part of a multi-disciplinary team of people, be proactive and innovative in their approach and communicate effectively at all levels.
This placement MUST form part of the overall degree programme in order for you to be considered.
Duties & Responsibilities:
To aid in the production of player videos and dossiers on target/recommended players to a high standard in line with department processes.
Analyse match footage in line with the club’s position specific criteria and help create/maintain a vast video library of players of interest to the football club.
Maintain and update databases critical to the player identification process.
Build experience in the use of data, video and general information, to assist key stake holders to make effective recruitment decisions.
Opportunities to gain experience with live/video scouting and report writing across the 2026/27season.
The opportunity to be involved in a range of personal development opportunities across the year, gaining insight into differing department’s workflows and processes.
Complete ad hoc duties as requested by line manager.
The competencies which are required include:
Essential Experience:
Undertaking a Master’s level degree in a sports science related degree that permits a placement year.
An understanding of the role of performance analysis either through academic qualifications or experience.
Strong work ethic and proactive attitude with a long-term commitment to a career in performance analysis or recruitment in elite level sport.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Good team player who fits in with the values and work ethic of the club as well as having a desire to develop others within the team
Strong work ethic and proactive attitude to problem solve and work under pressure
Highly organised and able to manage multiple tasks carrying out and ensuring a high standard of work
Drive and energy: demonstrate enthusiasm and is personally committed to achieving objectives set
Self-motivated: Driven and able to work off own initiative as well as follow guidance and instruction
Self-development: is receptive to feedback about own behaviour, strengths and areas for improvement.
Desirable Experience:
· Prior experience in the provision of performance analysis support
· Basic knowledge and experience of data and video analysis systems and their use to improve/assess performance
· Proficient using Keynote, Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills
