Role: Adult Social Care Locum Lawyer
Location: Rochdale (Hybrid - 1-2 days office / remainder remote)
Rate: £60 - £65 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: 27th April 2026 - End of September 2026 (likely extension)
The Opportunity
CRA Consulting is delighted to be working in partnership with a well-established Local Authority in Rochdale to recruit an experienced Adult Social Care Locum Lawyer. This role has been created to provide additional support within a busy and high-performing legal team, dealing with a varied caseload of adult social care matters. Drawing from the structure of a senior Adult Social Care legal function, the team delivers high-quality, value-driven legal services aligned to the Council's wider objectives and statutory duties.
You will be joining a collaborative and forward-thinking legal service where flexibility, autonomy and quality of work are genuinely prioritised.
What you'll be doing
* Advising on all aspects of Adult Social Care law, including safeguarding and statutory responsibilities
* Handling matters under the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and associated legislation
* Managing and progressing Court of Protection applications and proceedings
* Providing clear, pragmatic legal advice to social workers and internal departments
* Drafting legal documents, reports and court applications
* Supporting the Council in managing risk and ensuring legal compliance across services
* Attending hearings and meetings (primarily remote, with occasional office attendance)
What they're looking for
* Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with full practising rights
* Proven experience in Adult Social Care law, ideally within a Local Authority setting
* Strong working knowledge of key legislation and public sector processes
* Experience of Court of Protection work is highly desirable
* Ability to manage a caseload independently with minimal supervision
* Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with non-legal stakeholders
* Available to start from late April and commit through to September
