Role Summary
We are seeking a Network Manager to join our Network Management team in EMEA. Reporting to the Regional Head of Network Management, this role will be responsible for overseeing relationships with sub-custodians, account operators, central depositories, payment banks, and securities markets across our global network, supporting Northern Trust’s asset servicing business.
The Network Manager will play a pivotal role in driving the strategic management of provider relationships, ensuring robust risk management practices, and leading the commercial strategy with external partners. The position requires providing technical leadership, influencing market developments, and shaping innovative market models that support both client needs and the bank’s long-term strategic objectives.
As part of the Strategic Partnerships, Digital & Financial Markets Group, this is a high-profile role offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on Northern Trust’s global network strategy. The successful candidate will contribute to strengthening relationships across EMEA and play a key role in ensuring the continued growth and success of our asset servicing business.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
* Managing and developing relationships with all agent banks and third-party network providers e.g. subcustodians, account operators, central depositories, tri-party agents, payment banks, and contingency providers.
* For all third-party providers, manage service levels and perform due diligence risk assessments.
* Perform onsite visits (travel required) to maintain core risk management, relationship and expertise benefits, expand relationship generation, strengthen expertise on how markets operate, and support market advocacy.
* Ensuring assets are protected and held through correct account structures.
* Managing local market environment relating to the operational, legal, regulatory and infrastructure environment, and preparing/communicating relevant changes to internal and external partners.
* Provision of consulting services to internal/external partners seeking information and guidance to navigate through operational, regulatory and infrastructure conditions associated with investing in global markets.
* Contribute to lobbying efforts to influence market change and developments.
* Lead commercial engagement with all providers to maximise financial value.
* Drive and support the negotiation of legal documentation.
* Where applicable, perform market provider RFPs and also new market reviews to support expansion of Northern’s network coverage.
* Market evolution and digital assets to support (i) market evolution and industry change initiatives covering both traditional and digital assets, (ii) foster education in relation to market and digital asset evolution, and (iii) opportunity identification with agent banks, market infrastructures and other market entities.
* Strategically and operationally support Northern Trust business units.
Qualifications
* Extensive expertise in global custody and securities services with a proven track record of success.
* Seasoned professional with strong technical, business, and functional knowledge.
* Skilled in building, leading, and managing external relationships.
* Confident and experienced in presenting to sub-custodians, clients, and senior stakeholders.
* Demonstrated risk management expertise with the ability to assess and mitigate risks effectively.
