Fortress Recruit is supporting a Defence Engineering organisation seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to deliver and support the design of complex engineered products.
You’ll work across the full design lifecycle, from requirements capture and system architecture through to detailed electrical design, qualification testing, and production support, ensuring robust, compliant, and well-documented solutions are delivered to specification.
Key responsibilities:
* Deliver electrical design solutions across complete platforms, including cabinets, cable assemblies, and system-level cable routing.
* Produce detailed electrical schematics, cable drawings, routing documentation, and supporting design artefacts in line with internal, customer, and industry standards.
* Support verification and validation activities, including qualification testing.
* Contribute to EMC, vibration, shock, and environmental testing activities, working closely cross-team during combined test campaigns.
* Attend and support initial test activities to ensure designs are correctly implemented and tested.
* Participate in design reviews, ensuring solutions are compliant, manufacturable, and fit for purpose.
* Report on design progress, technical status, and workload against programme requirements.
To be successful, you’ll have:
* An Electrical Engineering degree, or HNC/HND with relevant experience.
* c3-5 years’ experience in electrical design within a regulated engineering environment (e.g. defence, rail, aerospace, or similar).
* Considerable experience producing electrical schematics, cable designs, and system-level routing documentation.
* Understanding of power and data integration, and EMC considerations
* Exposure to qualification and compliance testing, including EMC (hands-on EMC experience desirable but training can be provided).
* Comfortable working in documentation-heavy environments, with a strong focus on traceability and design assurance.
* Eligibility for SC Clearance (5 years’ UK residency with no visa or sponsorship requirement).
This is a full-time, permanent role predominantly based on-site in Poole, with some flexible working opportunity and occasional travel to test facilities.
