Our client has a requirement for a Building Services Engineer on a contract basis in Glasgow.
Role Purpose
The Building Services Engineer will work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team within the Approval Authority, directly supporting current operations and future programmes across nuclear facilities. The team (Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Building Services, Electrical, Piping Engineers) is responsible for the authorship, development, assessment, and maintenance of Engineering Design Substantiation, ensuring Design Intent, Critical Safety Factors and Safety and Operational Requirements are met in line with legislative, regulatory, and good practice standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Authoring, development, assessment, maintenance and management of Nuclear Infrastructure Design Substantiation documents and associated design changes/concessions.
* Presenting Design Substantiations to nuclear safety committees.
* Producing and developing Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) schedules, operating procedures and results to satisfy design requirements and lifecycle safety case needs.
* Producing/assessing Periodic Review of Safety reports and providing advice to internal/external stakeholders.
* Producing Independent Technical Assessment (ITA) / Independent Peer Review (IPR) scopes of work.
* Applying general and specialist engineering knowledge to utilise existing/emerging technologies, and applying theoretical and practical methods across the full engineering lifecycle within a nuclear/high-risk environment.
* Producing robust technical justification for design modifications within a high-hazard industry.
* Reviewing technical reports and safety case submissions from external contractors, and checking calculations/technical documents written by other staff.
Essential Experience & Skills
* Building services design experience within the HVAC discipline and supporting systems (LTHW, Fire Dampers etc).
* Ability to illustrate and analyse psychrometric properties of air and their impact on internal environments.
* Knowledge of key legislation and standards for building services design, plus familiarity with CIBSE guides and ASHRAE standards.
* Experience producing written technical reports and substantiation for engineered safety measures in high-hazard industries.
* Experience authoring robust technical justification and supporting documentation for design modifications.
* Experience working on multi-discipline projects (ideally industrial or maritime).
* Active SC Clearance
* Minimum HNC or equivalent in a relevant discipline and Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent experience.
Desirable
* Experience in a similar high-risk environment or within the UK nuclear industry (energy or defence).
* Familiarity with HAZID/HAZOP safety case development techniques.
* Knowledge of UK and US nuclear industry regulations, nuclear-specific codes and standards.
* Engineering degree and Chartered Engineer status.
