Job purpose The role of CFD Simulation Engineer Vehicle Thermal Performance will support vehicle thermal performance development. This role focuses on heat management across both the cabin and engine bay environments, ensuring optimal occupant comfort, component reliability, and overall vehicle efficiency. The role will develop, validate, and apply CFD models to support concept, development, and production phases, working closely with vehicle engineering, HVAC, powertrain, and CAE teams to achieve best-in-class thermal performance. Key duties and responsibilities Vehicle Thermal CFD Simulation: Develop, run, and maintain CFD models to predict airflow, heat transfer, and temperature distribution across engine bay, powertrain, HVAC, and cabin environments. Analyse and optimise cooling strategies for auxiliary components.: Evaluate cabin HVAC performance, including airflow distribution, temperature uniformity, and passenger comfort. Conduct trade-off studies, sensitivity analysis, and design optimisations to improve thermal efficiency and comfort. Model Validation & Correlation: Correlate CFD predictions with experimental measurements from thermal rigs, wind tunnel testing, and on-vehicle validation. Refine simulation models to ensure accuracy, robustness, and predictive capability. Provide clear recommendations to improve component and system thermal performance. Tools, Methods & Continuous Improvement: Apply advanced CFD techniques, including conjugate heat transfer (CHT) and multi-physics simulations. Develop and optimise CFD workflows, meshing strategies, and post-processing routines. Automate analysis and reporting where possible to improve efficiency. Keep up to date with emerging CFD methodologies, thermal management strategies, and best practices. Experience and qualifications Required Qualifications & Experience Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline. Experience in vehicle thermal management CFD, including engine bay and cabin heat flow. Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and HVAC principles. Proven experience correlating CFD results with test data. Familiarity with vehicle development processes and multi-disciplinary collaboration. Technical Skills CFD solvers: STAR-CCM, ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, or equivalent. Meshing and pre-processing tools for complex geometries. Post-processing and data analysis: MATLAB, Python, or similar. Knowledge of HVAC systems, engine cooling, radiators, battery/inverter cooling, and cabin comfort metrics. Experience with HIGH PERFORMANCE PRODUCT environments for large-scale simulations. Desirable Attributes Experience with electric and hybrid vehicle thermal challenges, including battery and electronics cooling. Knowledge of multi-physics simulation, including conjugate heat transfer and radiation modelling. Exposure to luxury or high-performance vehicle thermal systems. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Proactive, detail-oriented, and hands-on approach to solving thermal challenges Additional requirements The requirement to work on-site 3 days a week as minimal. Flexibility on start and finish times due to events and different locations is required.
