Job Title: Legal Director – Professional Indemnity (National Team)

The Role Clyde & Co is seeking an experienced Legal Director to join its National Professional Indemnity team, one of the largest and most respected PI practices in the UK market. This senior role is for a technically excellent lawyer with strong client‑facing skills, capable of managing complex, high-value claims and contributing to the strategic development of the national practice.
The role offers exposure to premium insurer clients, sophisticated coverage and defence work, and the opportunity to work collaboratively across Clyde & Co’s UK and international insurance platform.
Key Responsibilities
Advising insurers and insureds on complex professional indemnity claims, including coverage, defence strategy, policy interpretation and reserving issues
Handling high‑value and sensitive matters across a broad range of professions, including construction professionals, lawyers, accountants, surveyors, architects, engineers and consultants
Managing claims from inception through to resolution, including litigation, mediation and settlement
Acting as a trusted adviser to key insurer and broker clients, developing strong, long‑term relationships
Supervising, mentoring and developing junior lawyers within the team, ensuring consistent quality and technical excellence
Supporting partners with business development, including client pitches, panel tenders, thought leadership and client training
Contributing to the strategic growth and profile of the National PI practice, including innovation, process improvement and knowledge‑sharing initiatives
Skills & Experience
Qualified solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent common law jurisdiction)
Significant post‑qualification experience in professional indemnity insurance, ideally gained within a leading insurance, commercial or disputes practice
Strong technical expertise in PI policy wordings, coverage issues and claims handling
Proven ability to manage complex, high‑value matters with a high degree of autonomy
Excellent client‑handling skills with a commercial and solutions‑focused approach
Experience mentoring junior lawyers and contributing positively to team culture
Interest in business development and practice growth
