Location: Enfield

Salary: Circa £50,000 + London Weighting + Performance related bonus

Shift Pattern: Monday – Friday – daytime shift

We’re recruiting for a dynamic VMU Service Manager to lead our Enfield site and steer our fleet maintenance operations. You’ll be the driving force behind keeping our HGV fleet roadworthy, compliant, and performing at its absolute best.

What you’ll be doing

10. Safety, Compliance & Quality: Champion safety leadership, preventative maintenance, quality assurance, MOT planning, accident/non-compliance investigations and adhere to HSE and legal standards
11. VMU Operations & Performance: Lead VMU performance, overseeing workflow, fleet availability reporting, service planning, compliance and contractor management to ensure efficient service delivery
12. People Leadership & Development: Support, motivate and develop the team through clear goals, regular communication, recruitment, performance management and fostering innovation
13. Resource & Parts Management: Manage SLAs, staffing cover, spare parts inventory (SPI), warranty claims, tools/equipment maintenance and calibration
14. Financial & Project Management: Control and forecast budgets, negotiate best-value purchasing, reduce costs, and deliver projects on time and within budget
15. Operational & Customer Focus: Maintain operational plans aligned to customer expectations, ensure contract compliance, minimise production disruption, and meet driver/legal requirements
16. Continuous Improvement & Business Collaboration: Drive VMU improvements, investigate service failures, enhance reliability and wellbeing, collaborate cross-functionally (e.g., fuel/maintenance), and provide FEM cover when required

Who you are

17. NVQ Level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
18. Proven experience in managing or leading a Heavy Goods VMU/workshop team
19. A solid understanding of compliance, health & safety, and preventative maintenance
20. Strong leadership skills — you're a team builder, not just a task manager
21. Budget, parts, and contractor management experience
22. A hands-on leader who can handle the tools and the strategy
