SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant Job in Blackpool 🧠

Are you a compassionate and resilient individual with a passion for supporting young people? We are looking for a dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) / Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant to join a secondary school in Blackpool. This is a crucial role for supporting students who need additional help to thrive in their education.

This position is a temporary role with the strong potential to become a permanent contract, offering a clear path for a long-term career. We're looking for someone to start in October 2025 or sooner.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other staff to provide one-on-one or small group support to students with a variety of needs, including those related to special educational needs and mental health. Your main goal will be to help students access the curriculum, build their confidence, and develop essential social and emotional skills.

This role is open to both qualified and unqualified applicants. While prior experience in a school or with SEN/SEMH is a plus, we are primarily looking for someone with the right attitude-patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a difference.

Key Responsibilities

Student Support: Provide tailored academic, social, and emotional support to students with special educational needs.

Classroom Assistance: Help manage classroom behaviour and ensure a positive learning environment.

Relationship Building: Develop strong, trusting relationships with students to help them feel safe and supported.

Collaboration: Work alongside teachers, parents, and other professionals to implement individualised education plans.

Who We're Looking For

Patience & Empathy: A calm, understanding, and patient approach to working with young people who may have challenging behaviours.

Resilience: The ability to handle stressful situations and adapt to different needs.

Passion: A genuine interest in supporting students with SEN/SEMH and helping them reach their full potential.

Communication: Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with students, teachers, and parents.

If you are ready to start a rewarding career and help change lives in a supportive secondary school environment, apply today
