Main purpose of the Job
You will work in our Mold, Flintshire or Manchester City Centre Office and will be required to design a range of highway schemes at various project stages. The successful post holder will be responsible for using industry standard specifications, guidance and technical analysis software for the delivery of technical outputs of projects or service areas to the meet the client’s brief.

As part of your role, you will be able to establish a sound understanding of the client brief. Using own initiative and technical skills, you will support the wider (multi-disciplinary) project team through safe, efficient and effective delivery of tasks to deadlines. This will ensure that the project remains within budget and to agreed standards. You will be responsible for delivery of assigned tasks whilst acting under minimal supervision, therefore you will be expected to plan your own work to meet given objectives.
Additionally, you will assist in the development of team members to reach their full potential, whilst developing an appreciation of safe, sustainable and commercially viable solutions and stakeholder skills.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Undertake services within an engineering environment which may include (but not limited to); scheme investigation, site inspections, data collection and analysis, feasibility studies, preliminary and detailed design, preparation of tender documents and works/construction inspection and supervision.
* Prepare technical designs in accordance with approved design procedures.
* Prepare technical documents and drawings for checking and approval.
* Exercise independent engineering judgement and provide innovative solutions to engineering problems.
* Prepare own discipline designs, design calculations, tender documentation, scheme evaluations, design statements and other reports as identified in the Project Management Plan on assigned projects.
* Work within complete understanding of all relevant standards, Codes of Practice, Health & Safety Legislation and current design methods and provide general technical support to own discipline team members.
* Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of own discipline standard specifications
* Assist the Project Manager by recording and monitoring costs during the project and report on the budget position.
* Provide site supervision during the construction phase of a project and effectively address any matters that arise, escalating to senior colleagues as required.
* Provide workplace mentoring and guidance to less experienced members of staff to ensure they are able to develop the necessary skills to deliver in their role.
What Qualifications, Experience & Skills are required?

* HND or Degree in Civil Engineering
* Working towards a professional qualification in civil engineering (EngTech/ IEng/ CEng with ICE or CIHT)
Experience
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience working on highways and major projects.
* Experience of working independently within recognised highway design or construction standards, codes of practice, guidelines and
* Previous experience of an engineering organisation
* Experience of designing active travel interventions, pavement and drainage design.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Detailed knowledge of highway design or construction standards, equipment and/or specialist software relevant to the role.
* Awareness of Health & Safety issues in relation to the design and construction of civil engineering works
* Working knowledge of relevant design software including AutoCAD / BIM
* Ability to act as a competent designer.
* Communication skills; Verbal & Written
* Ability to informally train and mentor less experienced staff
* Ability to communicate in Welsh
* Experience of KeySoft Software, Civils3D and Microdrainage
