Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once CESR is awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
Applications are welcome for the above Permanent/, full time (40 hours per week) post based in the Royal Edinburgh Hospital.
There are a range of opportunities that would facilitate less than full time working and NHS Lothian psychiatric services have a strong track record in supporting consultants to develop their role and job plan through less than full time work. We have also been exploring options to work across a sector with patient responsibility in both inpatient and community roles.
Clinical duties include:
1. To lead the provision of an inpatient psychiatric service within the defined catchment area to individuals ages 18-64 with serious mental health problems.
2. To provide expertise in the assessment, diagnosis and management of adult patients with complex mental health needs.
3. To contribute to and work as part of the multidisciplinary team to ensure a comprehensive approach to patient care.
4. To work in close liaison with the Intensive Home Treatment Team with a view to safe and timely transfer of patients between the teams when clinically appropriate.
5. To liaise with consultant colleagues in the community, especially with regard to care planning and discharge planning.
6. To hold Responsible Medical Officer status as defined within the Mental Health (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003.
7. To lead on Mental Health Act work for patients and attend Mental Health Review Tribunals as required.
8. To use the Care Programme Approach where appropriate and as defined by CPA guidance.
9. To provide professional leadership to the inpatient wards, including clinical supervision to the medical team working within the service.
10. To be a member of the inpatient ward management team
11. To work collaboratively with other parts of the Adult Service and with other specialist services within REAS and Edinburgh CHP.
12. To provide nominal cover for Consultant colleagues on annual leave and in emergencies for sick leave, adverse weather etc.
