NRS Dounreay are looking for Operators to join either the Fuel Cycle Area (FCA) Programme area or Site Services, Waste Operations and Logistics department, supporting critical activities that underpin the safe and effective decommissioning of the Dounreay site. This role offers a varied, hands‑on position for colleagues looking to broaden their operational experience within a safety‑focused, highly regulated environment. A classified medical may be required for this post.

What youll do:
Youll work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team delivering both routine and non‑routine operational activities across facilities. The role involves operating plant and ancillary equipment, preparing and working in controlled areas, carrying out monitoring and checks, and supporting plant improvements and repairs. Shift working may be required to meet operational demands, and strict adherence to procedures and quality systems is essential.
Key responsibilities
• Operate equipment including cranes, forklift trucks, MEWPs and telehandlers to support safe operations
• Prepare and work within radiation and contamination‑controlled areas, including decommissioning activities
• Carry out operational monitoring, inspections and checks, identifying issues and supporting resolution
• Safely package, handle and transfer radioactive and hazardous materials in line with procedures
• Perform the responsibilities of Management Appointments relevant to the post What youll bring:
Your operational experience, plant knowledge and attention to detail will enable you to contribute effectively:
• Sound numeracy and literacy skills, with the ability to accurately follow and apply written procedures
• Proven experience operating plant and equipment, including fork lift trucks and overhead cranes
• Glovebox training and experience in posting operations, supported by solid plant knowledge
• A flexible, team & a focused approach, committed to safety, quality and operational excellence
• Post specific capability analysis assessment
