Locum Consultant in General Surgery (Emergency Surgeon)

The successful applicants will be offered the opportunity to work closely with the existing surgical consultants in the Trust to provide a high standard of care across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

Person Specification
Qualifications / Training
* Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
* Licence to practice
* Postgraduate degree (or equivalent) related to General Surgery (eg Masters / MD / MRes / PhD etc)
Previous Experience
* Wide range of experience in General Surgery
* Demonstrable training in Colorectal Surgery
* Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training, and other colleagues
* Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent diagnostic opinion, and to be able to take full responsibility for independent management of patients
* Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
* Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidencebased practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
* Demonstrable experience and participation in research
* Experience of General Surgery in UK Major Hospital
* Evidence of independent lower gastrointestinal endoscopy practice
* Published papers and original work in peer reviewed journals
Skills and knowledge
* Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors
* Evidence of engagement with appraisal and revalidation
