Police Community Support Officer (March 2026 intake)

PCSOs are at the heart of local policing, bringing people together, strengthening communities, and creating a safer community for all. As a uniformed presence in your community, you will play a key part in building trust and confidence by supporting us to deliver our Neighbourhood Policing Strategy to our communities.

Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) act as a key liaison point between local communities and policing. As a PCSO, you will be a trusted presence in your community and play a vital role in delivering our Neighbourhood Policing Strategy by strengthening community relationships, helping defuse tensions, gathering valuable insights, and fostering trust. You may offer reassurance, help prevent anti-social behaviour, or be a calm presence in times of tension, contributing to safety, public confidence, and crime prevention. Be the face of local policing and make a difference in your community.

Pay and Benefits

Scale 4 - £26,106 - £28,653 per annum (earning potential from £29k to £32k approx including shift allowance and weekend enhancement).

Shift allowance of up to 12.5% depending on location and working hours. Weekend working time and half for Saturday and Sunday. Hours are 8am to 10pm shift pattern, operating over 7 days a week.


Requirements

* Candidates must be a minimum of 17 years at the time of submitting an application but must be 18 years of age at the time of commencing employment
* BMI range between 18 - 32, or the ability to achieve this range by January 2026
* Ability to complete a shuttle run (bleep test) up to level 5.4
* GCSE A*-C (4-9) in English and Maths or Level 2 Function Skills in English and Maths; if not held, must pass online verbal reasoning and calculation test
* Full UK manual driving licence or obtain within 12 months of appointment


Application Process

* Eligibility criteria including confirmation of qualifications; you will need to upload and evidence your Level 2 English and Maths certificate
* National sift exercises: situational judgment test (SJT) and behavioural styles questionnaire (BSQ)
* Complete online application form with personal details
* Interviews: Competency and Values Framework assessed at interview; CVF available for download
* Pre-employment checks if successful at interview


Training Information

Your initial training period will be 9 weeks (Monday-Friday) with in-house training support. It includes role plays and practical sessions to develop essential skills. There will also be one day of Welsh training and a 15-week tutorship to complete a competency-based portfolio.

At the end of training, you may be assigned to a rota and begin independent patrols. Note: there is an 18-month tenure attached to this post.
