Job Description
Key responsibilities:
* Maintain and develop Health, Safety & Environmental systems in line with legal, ISO, and internal standards.
* Promote a positive HSE culture through regular shop‑floor presence, engagement, and behavioural improvement initiatives.
* Conduct accident and incident investigations, identify root causes, and ensure timely completion of corrective actions.
* Prepare and review risk assessments, SOPs, COSHH documentation, and maintain chemical substance registers.
* Support ISO14001 accreditation and help ensure all departments remain audit‑ready.
* Deliver new starter inductions and contribute to departmental training programmes, including occupational health surveillance.
* Perform internal audits and assist with external audit preparation.
* Control contractors and ensure safe systems of work are consistently applied.
* Collate KPI data for HSE performance and support customer audit requirements.
* Attend or chair HSE meetings and support cross‑functional teams to achieve shared goals.
* Deputise for the Group HSE Director when required.
The Successful Applicant
The successful candidate:
* Qualified to Level 6 in a Health & Safety discipline (or working towards).
* Experienced in managing and maintaining ISO‑accredited HSE systems (ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001).
* Ideally brings Environmental Management qualifications and experience within FMCG or manufacturing.
* Strong communicator capable of influencing at all levels, from shop‑floor to senior leadership.
* Skilled in developing training, facilitating change, and embedding a strong safety culture.
* Confident conducting audits, risk assessments, COSHH evaluations, PUWER‑related documentation, and contractor control.
* Proactive, dynamic, solutions‑focused, and able to take ownership of HSE improvement initiatives.
* Holds a full UK driving licence and able to travel between sites.
