Why Rolls-Royce?
Rolls-Royce is home to some of the world's finest minds. Nowhere are those minds more keenly tested than in our growing Submarines business. Our team is comprised of a broad range of experts in the fields of engineering, manufacturing, project management and procurement. This is your chance to join them.
As our business responds to unprecedented opportunities arising from defence requirements, energy security and net zero, new horizons are unfolding for our people and portfolio. Whilst this offers our business a significant potential advantage, realising any future opportunities will remain reliant on one fundamental aspect: delivering on the commitments of today, to secure the opportunities of tomorrow.
Of all such commitments, our work within the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE) to deliver the UK Submarines Programme remains the cornerstone. It is here that the Services Delivery Business Unit fulfils a crucial role serving our MoD customers, our partners across the defence nuclear industrial base, and our colleagues across the business, to achieve a collective aim of safe, available, and capable submarines at sea.
The Head of In-Service Programme role within Services will provide leadership across the full breadth of the programme from entry into service through to final disposal of the Nuclear Steam Raising Plant fitted to the UK and future AUKUS submarine fleets.
The post reports to the Director Services and has line management responsibility for the programme management teams assigned. The key accountability is to lead the teams to deliver the full range of commitments made to the Submarines Enterprise and the contract performance to the Submarines business.
We’ll provide an environment where you can be yourself. An inclusive, digital-first culture that invests in you, gives you a platform for continuous learning, and access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities to grow your career.
We offer excellent development, a competitive salary and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.
What you will be doing:
Lead, engage, and motivate the In-Service Team to operate at the highest standards and deliver exceptional service
* Lead the assigned Programme Management, Business Management, Capability Management, and Improvement teams.
* Engaging the teams in our mission and developing them to be the best they can be.
* Identifying, developing, and implementing new processes and tools, where required to support the teams to deliver their projects.
You’ll be responsible for delivering the full range of In-Service commitments made by Rolls-Royce Submarines
* Driving improved submarine availability through the provision of excellent technical and operational support to the submarine fleet.
* Development and optimisation of inspection, repair and maintenance capabilities and associated deployment plans.
* Supply of the components and nuclear safety cases required to enable the submarines deployments through to end of life and subsequent safe defuel / disposal.
* Delivering all commitments to cost, time, and quality.
You’ll integrate across the Submarines Enterprise and within the Rolls-Royce Submarines business
* Engaging and collaborating with the Enterprise Partners to achieve the best outcome for the programme.
* Ensuring that the relationships across functional workstreams and organisational boundaries are in place to secure the required resources and dependencies.
* Providing credible forecasts of delivery performance to all stakeholders and ensuring that the executive systems cascade the correct programme demand to the required areas.
* Leading programme, business and enablement reviews and driving necessary action.
Who we’re looking for:
At Rolls-Royce we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration and seek simplicity in everything we do. These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.
To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following criteria:
* Experience of leading a complex and dynamic portfolio of projects with significant financial accountability. Experience in a Services environment would be an advantage.
* Experience in leadership of people in a high pressure, challenging environment, dealing with complex and ambiguous situations. Able to work through ambiguity to focus the team on the right priorities.
* Able to build strong relationships across organisational boundaries and influence key stakeholders who often have conflicting priorities by clearly articulating the situation in a constructive way.
* Highly collaborative, using the strengths of a diverse team to deliver the programme objectives. Exposure to non-core project management roles such as purchasing, commercial, production, engineering management, etc will be a real asset in getting work done.
* Qualified to Degree level or equivalent and recognised by a relevant professional body.
We are an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives. And the more perspectives we have, the more successful we’ll be. By building a culture of respect and appreciation, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.
