Job Overview
As part of the Digital Data & Technology (DDaT) team, the Solution Architect will drive the design and implementation of digital solutions that support patients across the Trust and the wider health system. The role ensures solutions align with the DDaT Target Operating Model, NHS standards and the Trust’s long‑term strategy, while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
Main Duties
* Design and oversee the implementation of technology solutions that align with business goals, ensuring they are scalable, secure and integrated across systems.
* Architect platforms across clinical, operational and administrative domains.
* Ensure alignment with NHS and healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7, SNOMED CT, GP Connect).
* Lead integration of third‑party systems and internal applications.
* Facilitate seamless data exchange across platforms and organisations.
* Own solutions through to delivery, managing wider Trust application estate and dependencies.
* Develop balanced solution architecture that meets business priorities, enterprise architecture principles and governance processes.
* Lead cloud‑native design – Azure, AWS, microservices, containers, serverless computing.
* Create solution views and architecture diagrams for technical and non‑technical audiences.
* Champion clear communication of complex systems.
Detailed Responsibilities
* Collaborate with stakeholders to define problems, outcomes and constraints.
* Translate business requirements into technical specifications.
* Design solutions that integrate seamlessly with existing systems.
* Promote interoperability and data consistency across platforms.
* Develop solution acceptance criteria to ensure integrity and enable stakeholder communication.
* Collaborate with technical teams, business stakeholders and partners to balance user experience, security and cost.
* Identify and reuse components, patterns and techniques for cross‑project use.
* Establish proof‑of‑concepts and recommend technology adoption.
* Work with Security and Information Risk to meet NHS security standards.
* Manage logical to physical design with internal and external delivery partners.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
* Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise‑level digital solutions in healthcare or complex environments.
* Strong knowledge of NHS data standards – FHIR, HL7, SNOMED CT, GP Connect.
* Experience defining architecture and roadmaps for complex solutions across all layers.
Desirable Criteria
* Familiarity with agile delivery, CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling.
* Strong integration/interoperability development experience.
* Advanced knowledge and competent use of EPR systems and other healthcare IT systems.
