Organisation PentathlonGB Salary £13,200 (£33,000 FTE) (14 hours per week) Location Hybrid: University of Bath / Remote Contract type Permanent (Part time) Closing date 20 March 2026 Interview date 29 March 2026 Job Description The Lead Safeguarding Officer will drive the national development of our safeguarding strategy, with education, accessibility, relevancy, compliance and case management at the heart of the role.
Working across the Pentathlon family of sports you will provide a safe and knowledgeable space for internal and external development and queries, actively supporting our Clubs and Hubs with best practice as well as athletes and individuals on a one to one and group basis.
Key Responsibilities
1. Policies and Procedures
• Ensure all Pentathlon GB safeguarding policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated
• Ensure all Pentathlon GB safeguarding policies and procedures are well signposted and easily accessible
2. Supporting our network
• Lead on all areas of case management
• Act as the DBS / PVG lead for all Pentathlon GB events and to also to provide safeguarding leadership in the planning of national and international camps, competitions and events
• Ensure all Pentathlon GB safeguarding policies and procedures are distributed to and understood by the wider Pentathlon network of Hubs and Clubs.
• Act as the DBS / PVG approver for Pentathlon GB with relevant applications
• Support Hubs and Clubs with volunteer and athlete education around safeguarding requirements.
• Support Hubs and Clubs with case management advice where required and appropriate.
Stakeholder interaction and reporting
• Lead on all review processes and interaction with governing bodies such as Sport England, UK Sport, the CPSU / NSPCC and the Ann Craft Trust
• Provide regular reports to the Executive Board and the senior management team
• Work with our case management group to ensure that we have the relevant expertise and strong external support.
Education
• Lead on all safeguarding related education programmes.
• Provide a clear safeguarding induction process for new employees and executive board members
• Train and develop 2 x Deputy Safeguarding officers
Partnerships and new developments
• Work with new and existing partners to ensure that there is synergy across partner sports and organisations
Person Specification
Essential
• Proven experience in developing and managing safeguarding programmes within a sport, education, or community setting
• Experience in delivering safeguarding case management to the highest standard
• Experience in supporting related networks in delivering safeguarding education and case management
• Excellent project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple partnerships and stakeholders
• Comfortable with data collection, evaluation, and reporting aligned with national funders’ expectations.
• Skilled and empathetic communicator with the ability to engage, inspire and support a wide range of partners, including volunteers, coaches and young people.
Desirable
• Knowledge of the Sports landscape and in particular Pentathlon sporting disciplines and/or multi-discipline youth sports.
• Familiarity with UK Sport and Sport England System Partner expectations.
