Job summary
The post comprises one full‑time Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics. On‑calls will be based at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital site. The Department requires an individual with a special interest and experience in knee arthroplasty surgery. The Alexandra Hospital serves as a main centre for elective orthopaedics throughout Worcestershire and includes four laminar‑flow theatres and a 28‑bed MRSA‑free ward used exclusively by the Orthopaedic Department for elective surgery. The Redditch Orthopaedic Centre is a musculoskeletal outpatient department, opened in January 2006. Worcestershire Royal site is the trauma unit with 73 inpatient beds and handles almost 900 femoral neck fractures per year.
As part of the Consultant Advisory Appointment Committee, shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide a 5‑minute presentation on the topic: *Developing a High‑Quality and Sustainable Knee Service in Worcestershire*.

Main duties of the job
This is a replacement post for a Consultant in Knee and Lower Limb Reconstruction. The successful applicant will provide elective knee clinics at Alexandra Hospital, Redditch. They will undertake a regular knee operating list at Alexandra hospital, with access to dual‑consultant operating and support for complex/revision cases where required. A regular day‑case arthroscopy/soft‑tissue knee list will run at the KTC site. The post holder will contribute to the trauma rota and support the delivery of lower limb trauma surgery. They will also participate in MDT working, including knee MDT and complex case discussions.
Applicants must be on, or within 6 months of entry to, the GMC Specialist Register for Trauma & Orthopaedics.

Person specification
* Qualifications (Essential)
* Full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise; entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Trauma & Orthopaedics (or expected within 6 months of interview date) via CCT or CESR (CP), CESR, or European Community Rights; successful in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or overseas equivalent.
* Qualifications (Desirable)
* Higher degree.

* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCT in Trauma & Orthopaedics.
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems in both emergency and elective settings.
