Job description
The research consultant – medical writer will undertake and supervise high-quality writing activities at YHEC. This will include a broad range of medical writing projects and will involve the planning, writing and editing of project reports, journal articles, slide decks, digital media, and submissions to NICE and other HTA bodies. You will be contributing to a variety of client projects and non-chargeable tasks across all YHEC sectors.
Main Duties
* Lead the development of a range of written deliverables, for example HTA dossiers, protocols, technical modelling or review reports, and slide decks.
* Develop infographics to improve visual communication.
* Prepare manuscripts and conference deliverables (e.g. abstracts and posters).
* Conduct expert opinion elicitation and qualitative research projects, including interviews with key opinion leaders and thematic analysis.
* Contribute to the intellectual design and planning of projects.
* Undertake project management duties, such as project planning and client liaison.
* Meet project deadlines in a timely manner.
* Contribute to the development of research proposals and lead discussions with potential clients around scope and defining the PICO.
* Work with in-house technical staff (e.g. health economists and systematic reviewers) as well as external associates to complete projects.
* Liaise with colleagues, clients and co- authors (in person and via email/teleconference).
* Conform to house styles and processes (including project tracking and timekeeping).
* Manage in-house training of research staff (primarily through editing of written material and delivering internal presentations).
* Undertake proof-reading and editing of written material (own and others).
* Contribute to marketing at YHEC (e.g. developing blogs and social media posts).
Person specification
* Educated to degree level (in a scientific discipline or English language / linguistics).
* Experience of working as a medical writer/editor or completion of a post-graduate research programme (applicants close to completion will also be considered).
* Confidence in the design, management and delivery of complex writing projects for clients in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries.
* Highly skilled with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and EndNote and competent user of Excel.
* Excellent communication, organisational skills, and attention to detail.
* Proven experience in the preparation of technical reports, academic papers, research proposals and other medical communication materials.
* Knowledge of preparing manuscripts and conference abstracts/posters.
* Willingness to engage in professional development.
