Senior Clinical Pharmacist - Surgical Services

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, focused, and forward thinking individual to lead the pharmacy service provided to the Surgical wards and departments within South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The team consists of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and medicines management support. The team is currently made up of rotational band 6 and band 7 pharmacists alongside regular medicine management support.
As a clinical leader in your speciality, you will be responsible for clinical audit, implementation of medicines optimisation strategies, and service improvements aimed at enhancing the benefits that the pharmacy team bring to our surgical patients.
Main duties of the job
You will lead the clinical pharmacy team to deliver safe, effective and optimum clinical pharmacy services to surgical patients at South Tees Hospitals in addition to providing expert advice, guidance and information on treatment choices, medicines use, clinical pharmacy and financial issues to senior staff and managers within the services.
This post will involve development of clinical pharmacy services in Surgical Services to ensure medicines optimisation. The post holder will actively consult patients in a variety of clinical settings and make clinical interventions to improve patient care and patient safety. The post holder will also continuously complete service evaluation and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) to continuously make improvements to the pharmacy service.
The trust has over 1000 beds across two acute hospital sites, plus beds in the community. We provide a comprehensive range of local, and specialist regional services including, neurosciences, renal medicine, spinal injuries, major trauma, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, hyper acute stroke services, paediatrics/neonates and cancer services including radiotherapy. Person Specification
Knowledge and Skills
* Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to clinical practice
* Involvement in development of evidence-based clinical guidelines, polices and protocols
* Strong knowledge of medicines information resources
* Membership of regional/national/international specialist interest groups relevant to field of practice
Qualifications and Training
* Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
* Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
* Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent relevant postgraduate clinical qualification
* Pharmacist independent prescribing accreditation or actively working towards qualification
* Evidence of CPD and ongoing education
* Membership with Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
* Working towards RPS advanced clinical practice or consultancy frameworks
Experience
* Wealth of experience in clinical pharmacy within a hospital setting
* Experience of providing directorate level pharmacist services e.g. budgetary reports, drug usage reviews
* Developments of protocols and policies
* Experience of developing strong professional relationships with other healthcare professionals
* Experience of leading and contributing to relevant research, audit and service improvement projects
* Experience of involvement in multidisciplinary service development
* Staff leadership and management experience
* Experience in mentorship and training for other staff
* Teaching experience in clinical and classroom setting
