Job Summary
Reporting to the Facility Manager, the Pool Operator is responsible for the daily operation of indoor swimming pools, daily cleaning throughout the facility, painting, general repairs, facility set-ups, supervision of part-time cleaning staff, facility supervision, completing required logs and reports, ensuring building security (including opening and closing of facility). During summer months, responsible for daily cleaning and responsible for trouble shooting problems at the outdoor splashpad located on site at McLean Community Centre.
Job Duties Include
The following responsibilities and duties of this position include but are not limited to:
* Maintains pool water quality by calculating and adding appropriate amounts of chemicals, adding make up water, backwashing, vacuuming, adjusting pool chemistry, superchlorination, and regularly cleaning filters and probes.
* Maintains building cleanliness by performing all custodial tasks in order to ensure a safe, clean, and healthy environment for the public i.e., regular mopping, sweeping, and vacuuming, complete floor stripping and refinishing procedures, window cleaning, scrubbing and disinfecting.
* Snow and ice removal from exterior walkways and entrance ways during winter months.
* Paints various areas of the facility to maintain the appearance of the building.
* Performs general repairs to tables, chairs, equipment, furniture and fixtures, and completes minor structural repairs.
* Performs various errands (deliveries, etc.).
* Supervises part-time custodians working during their shift by giving these employees direction and ensuring assigned duties are performed to the expected standard.
* Supervises the general public to ensure facility rules are followed and appropriate behaviour is practiced.
* Provide courteous service to customers at all times.
* Completes meeting and banquet set ups as required, according to the daily schedule of events, and facility set-up diagrams.
* Logs and reports a variety of information.
* Ensures the security of the building by locking interior and exterior doors, setting the building alarm, and opening the facility.
* Clearing snow from and maintaining a seasonal outdoor ice rink.
Qualifications/Skills
* Completion of Grade 12 High School Diploma.
* Minimum 1 year experience working in a facility with a pool.
* NSPF Certified Pool Operator certification or equivalent.
* Valid Class 'G' Ontario driver's licence with a clear driver's abstract.
* Current Standard First Aid with CPR C + AED Certification or willingness to obtain as a condition of employment.
* Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
* Must be available to work various shifts including days, evenings and weekends.
* Able to provide a Criminal Reference check with Vulnerable Sector screening dated within the last six months that is satisfactory to the Town.
Nice to Have
* Completion of a Ministry of Labour approved Working at Heights training certification is considered an asset.

* Hours of Work: This is a unionized position that works 40 hours per week. The hours of work are 10-hour shifts with a rotating schedule including days, evenings and weekends, and are in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement.
