About the role
My client is looking for a skilled and reliable Small Works Electrician to join their maintenance and small-works team. You’ll carry out electrical installations, upgrades, repairs, and light projects on a range of commercial, retail, and residential properties. The role requires a practical, hands-on approach, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety and quality. You’ll work both independently and as part of a team to deliver safe, compliant electrical solutions on time and to the highest standard.
Responsibilities
• Plan, install, test, commission, and hand over electrical circuits and small scale installations (lighting, power, controls) on defined projects and maintenance tasks.
• Fault finding, diagnostic work, repair, and routine maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.
• Carry out electrical testing and inspections in line with BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and ensure compliance with Part P where applicable.
• Complete pre-commission checks, insulation resistance, continuity testing, earth fault loop impedance tests, and issue appropriate test certificates.
• Read and interpret drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, schedules, method statements, and risk assessments; request and manage any required materials.
• Ensure all work is delivered to the required quality, safety, and compliance standards; implement safe isolation procedures and maintain permits-to work where required.
• Prepare accurate job sheets, certificates (e.g., minor works certificates, EICRs as applicable), and handover documentation.
• Manage small projects from start to finish, including material selection, scheduling, and coordination with site teams and customers.
• Liaise with customers and colleagues to provide regular progress updates and excellent customer service.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment; ensure housekeeping and tool maintenance.
• Keep vans/tools equipment in good condition; report any defects and ensure compliance with company asset policies.
• Stay up-to-date with regulatory changes and participate in ongoing training and professional development.

• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic abilities.
• Practical, hands-on installation and commissioning skills.
• Good reading of drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specs.
• Excellent problem-solving, planning, and time-management capabilities.
• High level of attention to detail and quality workmanship.
• Customer service orientation with clear, professional communication.
• IT literacy for electronic job sheets, reporting, and digital certificates.
• Ability to work safely and efficiently under pressure; adaptable to changing priorities.
• Team player with the ability to work independently when required.
Qualifications and experience
Essential
• NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent qualification; or proven apprenticeship/commercial experience.
• BS 7671 (18th Edition) awareness and hands-on application.
• UK ECS/JIB Gold Card or equivalent valid electrical certification.
• At least 2–4 years’ experience in electrical installation, maintenance, and small projects.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to work safely unsupervised and as part of a team.
• Right to work in the UK.
• 2391/2394/2395 Inspection and Testing qualification (or willingness to obtain).
Desirable
• AM2 or other recognised practical assessment.
• Experience with commercial/domestic small works in varied environments.
• First Aid at Work certificate.
• Customer-facing experience and strong communication skills.
