Overview
The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is seeking a Supplier and Technical Production Specialist to join our team on a fixed-term 28-hour contract (maternity cover, up to 12 months). The role supports the journals production team by ensuring journal articles accepted for publication meet our high standards, through day-to-day communication with external suppliers.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate the production workflow to ensure journal articles are published to agreed timescales and budgets.
* Apply science and English language skills to carry out quality control checks on external suppliers\' copyediting work.
* Keep the Supplier and Technical Production Manager, Journals, up to date with supplier performance data.
* Be a trusted adviser for external suppliers by providing guidance, responding to production queries and providing regular performance feedback.
* Act as a point of contact between RSC journals\' editorial teams and external suppliers and between authors and external suppliers, communicating issues and responding to queries.
* Apply knowledge of production processes to identify problems and suggest solutions.
* Lead or contribute to projects within the team or with other teams across the journals department.

What we’re looking for
* A good honours degree in science (chemical science normally preferred).
* Excellent written English skills and the ability to identify, correct and explain issues in English grammar.
* Knowledge of STM publishing (beneficial but not essential).
* A proactive approach to problem solving.
* Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
* Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Excellent communication skills in interacting with internal and external contacts.
* Ability to work well as part of a team.
