Job summary: This substantive post is maximum part‑time (up to 8 programmed activities) or part‑time as agreed. It may be offered as a job share. The appointee will be employed by the Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and will be based at Birmingham Dental Hospital, providing a comprehensive diagnostic, treatment and advisory service for Oral Medicine patients referred from general dental and medical practitioners, other consultants and via the urgent care service.
Working pattern: Five days a week (Monday, Thursday, Friday). Flexible/part‑time schedules can be discussed.

Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 a year pro rata

Post responsibilities
Clinical duties include: outpatient care of Oral Medicine patients, multidisciplinary treatment coordination with other specialties, adherence to clinical governance standards, participation in medical audit and research, supervision and line management of junior hospital staff, and involvement in teaching, examination and accreditation duties for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The appointee will also support departmental administration and will be accountable to the Divisional Medical Director and the Head of Service for Oral Medicine.
Academic activity
The post will be eligible for an honorary Senior Lecturer contract at the University of Birmingham. The consultant may be invited to participate in final BDS clinical examinations and will be encouraged to develop and deliver teaching programmes within the Managed Clinical Network and under the Trust’s budgetary limits.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC)
* Registered as a Specialist in Oral Medicine on the GDC Specialist Register
* Inter‑collegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination in Oral Medicine or equivalent
* Successful completion of the ISFE examination or equivalent (or within the final six months of training)
* Optional: MSc or equivalent
Experience
* Successful completion of a SAC‑approved 5‑year minimum training programme in Oral Medicine, or within 6 months of completion
* Experience of postgraduate and undergraduate teaching
* Teaching qualification
* Publication in peer‑reviewed journals
* Optional: Current holder of a substantive or honorary NHS consultant contract in Oral Medicine
* Optional: Equivalent national training for overseas‑trained candidates (European)
* Optional: Research relevant to Oral Medicine specialty
