Key Responsibilities
* Lead the delivery and oversight of the MA Black British Dance and Performance programme, consisting of six modules and a thesis, ensuring high academic standards, student engagement, and a rigorous learning environment.
* Support and develop Serendipity’s training and education programmes, inclusive of Young Archivists, Black Dance Uncovered: Summer School and our resource packs for educators.
* Manage two in-person modules in Leicester and four online modules, creating an inclusive and dynamic learning experience that supports diverse student needs.
* Provide mentorship and academic support to students throughout their thesis development, fostering critical thinking and scholarly growth.
* Ensure comprehensive pastoral care for students, offering guidance and support as needed throughout their academic journey, and creating a safe and nurturing environment.
* Collaborate with Serendipity to offer students access to the institute’s studio space, archive library, and other essential resources, enhancing their learning experience.
* Coordinate student involvement in Serendipity’s dance festival and summer school, integrating these professional events into the curriculum to support practical learning.
* Facilitate access to industry professionals, international artists, directors, creatives, and scholars, creating opportunities for students to engage with global expertise and diverse perspectives.
* Contribute to the programme’s growth, starting with a cohort of six students in the first year, expanding to nine students in the second year, and reaching twelve students by the third year.
* Maintain strong communication with students and staff, ensuring a supportive, collaborative, and thriving academic community.
Qualifications and Experience
* MA or higher qualification in a relevant field such as Dance, Arts, Heritage, or Black Studies.
* Proven experience in academic teaching, curriculum development, and leadership roles.
* Proficiency in designing and delivering both in-person and online modules.
* Deep understanding of Black British dance culture and heritage, with a commitment to its preservation and promotion through education.
* Strong organisational, mentoring, leadership, and pastoral care skills.
Immediate Focus of the MA Programme Structure
* The MA Black British Dance and Performance programme consists of seven modules: two in-person modules delivered in Leicester and five online modules.
* A thesis component, supported by one-on-one guidance from the Course Leader.
* Students will have access to Serendipity’s studio space, archive library, and opportunities to participate in Serendipity’s dance festival and summer school.
* Access to industry professionals and international artists, directors, creatives, as well as international scholars and academics.
