Position Overview
Bellway is one of the UK’s largest house builders and is looking to recruit an Assistant Site Manager for its Wessex division. The role will be based at Kingsmere Park, Ferndown, Dorset, BH22 8EB.
Role Summary
The Assistant Site Manager reports to the Site Manager and Construction Manager and assists with the responsibility for managing all aspects of a construction development site. The role ensures safe, efficient, and cost‑effective work, maintains the highest quality standards, and delivers excellent customer service within the given timescales.
Principal Accountabilities
* Support the Site Manager with day‑to‑day running of the development and provide clear direction to site staff regarding responsibilities and targets.
* Assist with management and implementation of health and safety procedures, working closely with Bellway Health and Safety Managers.
* Motivate, support and manage directly employed site staff, providing toolbox talks, training, coaching and support to improve performance.
* Ensure site presentation is maintained to the correct standard at all times.
* Support the Site Manager to deliver all aspects of production requirements in strict accordance with relevant technical and planning documentation and any subsequent instructions.
* Fully conform to building regulations and warranty providers’ requirements (NHBC, LABC Services).
* Assist the Site Manager with producing accurate production/progress returns and sending them to the Construction Manager or Director as requested.
* Assist with company‑directed quality control procedures and inspections, rectifying defects to avoid cost, time delays or quality reduction.
* Assist in monitoring and controlling the cost of production, approving payment to contractors and trades where appropriate.
* Ensure that adequate site records are maintained, including but not limited to Manager reports, labour requirements, plant, materials, site inductions and health and safety records.
* Thoroughly inspect and ensure remedial work is completed before each NHBC key‑stage inspection.
* Work with sales through regular meetings to ensure a smooth delivery of homes for customers.
* Carry out new‑home demonstration tours and other customer tours in line with the company’s customer‑first procedures.
* Be responsible for delivering excellent customer service in line with company guidelines.
* Accept responsibility for duties determined by the Site Manager, including deputising when required.
Experience and Qualifications
Experience of working as an Assistant Site Manager with a high‑volume residential house builder and effectively managing teams. Up‑to‑date knowledge of health and safety, building legislation and current NHBC standards.
Qualifications and Training
* GCSE Maths and English – Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
* Valid CSCS card at Site Manager level (or equivalent).
* Valid SMSTS certificate.
* Valid First Aid certificate.
* Construction Management – HNC Level 4, HND Level 5 or NVQ Level 6 (desirable).
* Valid Scaffold Appreciation certificate (desirable).
* Valid LOLER certificate (desirable).
