Job Description
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA / telemetry systems would be beneficial. You will influence and shape how we deliver our service into the future, providing technical engineering leadership and support to meet the objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and the commitment to net zero carbon.
Responsibilities
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including safety rules for HV and LV power systems and control systems within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on our electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role, which may be within normal working hours or out of hours.
Qualifications
* Good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Good working knowledge of control systems, including the application of IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in the development and delivery of safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance, including Failure Mode Effect Analysis and reliability systems.
* Drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and registered as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working toward registration with a realistic prospect of registration within 12 months.
* UK driving licence.
Additional Information
This is a hybrid role; a base location will be allocated near to your home. You may be required to travel and stay overnight occasionally. Incident management and professional development will be supported and appropriate training provided.
