The Shift Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of production processes. Working as part of a wider maintenance team, this position involves carrying out both scheduled maintenance and fast, effective responses to breakdowns. The successful candidate will bring strong technical skills and a proactive attitude to fault diagnosis and repair, while maintaining compliance with all relevant Health and Safety regulations.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
* Carry out machining and basic welding as required
* Respond quickly and effectively to mechanical breakdowns
* Plan and undertake scheduled preventive maintenance
* Diagnose and repair mechanical faults efficiently
* Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
* Work with a range of mechanical systems and components including:
o Milling machines and lathes
o Basic welding tools and techniques
o Diaphragm and vane pumps
o Pneumatics and hydraulics
o Clutches, chains, belts, bearings, and small gearboxes
Qualifications
* Time-served mechanical apprenticeship (essential)
* HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (desirable)
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in fault diagnosis and repair
* Practical, hands-on approach with strong problem-solving skills
* Self-motivated and capable of managing workload and priorities
* Excellent attention to detail and analytical thinking
* Strong communication and teamwork abilities
