At Cormac, we care for Cornwall’s most treasured natural spaces on behalf of Cornwall Council. From ancient woodlands and heathlands to multi-use trails and coastal paths, we protect and enhance the places that make Cornwall special.
As an Apprentice Countryside Officer, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals and community partners to help deliver Cornwall’s vision for environmental growth. You’ll gain hands-on experience in habitat management, biodiversity projects, and public engagement – all while earning a fully-funded Environmental Practitioner Degree through Harper Adams University.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Helping manage Cornwall’s countryside assets – including woodlands, heathlands, trails, and heritage sites.
* Supporting biodiversity projects like tree planting, habitat creation, and nature recovery.
* Assisting with the day-to-day running of sites, including safety audits and maintenance planning.
* Learning how to obtain funding and manage conservation projects from start to finish.
* Engaging with local communities, volunteers, and organisations to promote nature conservation.
* Gaining skills in ecological surveying, project planning, and environmental management.
What We’re Looking For
* A passion for the environment and a desire to build a career in countryside or environmental management.
* A minimum of three A levels at Grade C or higher, their equivalent (in UCAS points) or a Level 3 environment related qualification (merit or higher).
* Some experience or interest in countryside, arboriculture, or landscape work (through study, volunteering, or work).
* Strong communication and organisational skills.
* A full UK driving licence (or working towards one).
* A positive, proactive attitude and willingness to learn.

Our Offer to you
Location: Based in west Cornwall – working across a variety of countryside sites.
Duration: Fixed-term apprenticeship (Four years) with potential for progression.
Training Provider: Harper Adams University (block release), Newport.
Working hours: 37 per week.
Salary: £20,202 in first year, progressing every 6 months through apprenticeship.
Start Date for Cormac: Monday 22 September 2025
On Line Teams Induction: Monday 29th September 2025
Start Date for University: Monday 29 September 2025 (First week at Harper Adams Monday 13 October 2025)
Close Date: Midnight Sunday 10th August 2025
Interviews: W/C Monday 11th August 2025
