We are seeking a dedicated Coroner's Support Officer to provide prompt and efficient specialist administrative assistance to the Coroner, including managing the Coroner's electronic diary and performing PA responsibilities as needed. The Coroners Service comprises a small team dedicated to providing support to the Senior Coroner by ensuring that the legislative and case management processes, as well as the planning and handling of inquests, are conducted efficiently and effectively. Salary: £26,403 to £26,824 per annum Contract Type: Permanent Working Pattern: Full-time (37 hours per week) Location: County Hall North, Madeira Ave, Horsham RH12 1AB Interview Date: Tuesday 26 May 2026 You will need to be able to travel independently around the county, including to areas that may not be easily accessible by public transport. Pool cars and pool bikes available. About the Job In this role, you will provide a reliable, efficient and flexible administrative service, relating to the delivery of a specialist judicial service, whilst complying with statutory requirements. Any given day can often feel quite different from the next! There will be some key responsibilities likely to feature in this role, including: Following established procedures and processes to independently address daily telephone, email, and written inquiries, exercising judgment and initiative to resolve unforeseen issues as needed. Keeping relevant records, both computerised and manual, updated and maintained accurately in relation to the service. Responsible for the careful and appropriate handling of confidential information pertinent to the service on a daily basis. Confidently referring complex or technical queries, as well as those outside the scope of the service, while working under guidance on unusual or challenging issues. Maintaining communication and fostering positive working relationships with relevant managers and colleagues to ensure the delivery of effective services. Required Qualifications and Skills 4 GCSEs with A-C (4-9) passes including Maths and English or equivalent qualification or experience, demonstrating the same level of numeracy and literacy. Experience of working in a customer orientated environment. Experience of working as a team member. A good understanding of office systems and practices, and relevant technical knowledge of associated procedures, usually demonstrated by experience of working in an office environment, preferably within a senior administrative role. Dependable and adaptable, able to effectively manage your own time and proactively respond to unforeseen or changing circumstances. Skills to show dedication to your own success as well as the success of the team, demonstrating support and collaboration with your colleagues Able to embrace change and adapt effectively to evolving situations and new methods of working, including new systems and processes.
