This role is initially offered on a freelance, commission-only basis. As the group grows and workload stabilises, there is a clear opportunity for this role to develop into a salaried position with commission for the right individual.
Role Overview
JEM Sheet Metal Ltd is building a group of engineering, fabrication, and industrial services businesses. We are looking for a freelance Business Development Manager to secure new contracts and work, initially focused on our sheet metal fabrication business.
This is a results-driven commercial role. Success is measured by contracts secured and work delivered, not activity metrics.
Key Responsibilities
· Securing Contracts and Work
Secure new fabrication and sheet metal contracts
Convert enquiries and opportunities into confirmed orders
Develop repeat business and long-term customer relationships
Identify framework, repeat-order, and preferred supplier opportunities
· Commercial Ownership
Lead commercial discussions through to order placement
Work with estimating and operations teams to ensure work is accurately scoped
Ensure work secured is deliverable and commercially sound
Manage the handover from contract award to operations
· Pipeline Visibility
Maintain visibility of opportunities, quotations, and secured work
Provide realistic workload forecasts based on confirmed orders
Use agreed tracking tools to report progress

Experience and Profile
· Proven experience securing contracts within engineering, fabrication, or manufacturing
· Comfortable working from drawings, specifications, and technical requirements
· Strong commercial judgement and negotiation skills
· Practical, self-driven, and results-focused
· Able to work independently
Contract and Commission
This role is offered on a freelance, commission-only basis. Commission is paid on secured and invoiced work. Full commercial terms will be agreed with the successful candidate.
