Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

To strengthen our motorsports program, we are seeking an IndyCar Support Engineer to aid in the utilization of our simulation toolchain within the GM Motorsports supported series. The goal of this position is to provide valuable engineering support that results in on track performance improvement. You will work with race team members and fellow GM support engineers to perform analysis studies using offline and driver-in-loop (DiL) simulations, assist in offline simulation tool development and education, facilitate team feedback to GM simulation development entities, aid in development and refinement of vehicle modeling inputs, and help develop baseline simulation settings for on track events. You will be expected to deliver all projects to the highest standards, on-time and within budget. Proficiency in engineering tasks involving simulation tools is essential, along with a strong aptitude for proactively collaborating on vehicle performance initiatives. A passion for developing and applying highly accurate, computationally efficient models is also critical to success in this role.

What You’ll Do

Play a key role as a performance support engineer for GM Motorsports in the IndyCar series

Help teams in fitment of collected data for the purpose of input to simulation modeling

Be part of the broader simulation support team seeking to continuously improve and investigate methods to utilize the simulation toolchain and increase race team performance

Assist GM Vehicle Dynamics team in simulation toolchain development

Represent racing team needs as a stakeholder in the simulation toolchain development process

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

* Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or a related subject
* 3-5+ years of professional motorsport experience within a professional race team setting
* Experience using data analysis software such as Pi Toolbox, MoTeC i2, McLaren ATLAS
* Knowledge of high-performance vehicle, tire, and aero modeling techniques
* Highly analytical, customer focused, and structured, with positive relationship and strong communicative skills
* Ability to multi-task in a dynamic, ever-changing environment, bringing a strong work ethic and integrity
* Must be a great teammate, be able to work a flexible schedule and have a high level of integrity
* Ability to travel 10% of the time per year
* This job may be eligible for relocation benefits

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

* Prior IndyCar or equivalent series Race Engineering experience
* Master’s degree in engineering, physics or related subject
* Experience working with DiL simulators
* Knowledge of using Dymola/Modelica in a simulation toolchain
* Exposure to modern software development tooling and environments, preferably C# and Git
* Familiarity with modern software development tools and environments, preferably C# and Git
