Overview
We are seeking a talented and experienced Design Engineer to join a growing manufacturing business with excellent opportunities for career development. The successful candidate will be part of an in-house design team, working on the development of new products while supporting day-to-day creative and engineering activities. This is a varied and rewarding role that involves designing and refining a wide range of high-volume manufactured products for international markets.
Responsibilities
* Product Development & Engineering
o Design and engineer new products, including 3D modelling, visualisation, and creation of 2D manufacturing drawings.
o Develop innovative concepts, collaborating closely with R&D, Quality, Operations, and suppliers.
o Establish manufacturing controls, testing procedures, and quality documentation.
o Create technical specifications, manuals, and supporting documents.
* Visualisation & Marketing Support
o Produce renders and presentation materials for sales and marketing use.
o Prepare 2D layout drawings for proposed projects.
* Technical Documentation
o Maintain and update engineering drawings to improve clarity and accuracy.
o Develop O&M manuals and installation guides.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Degree in Design or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
* Minimum 2 years experience in design engineering/draughting within a manufacturing environment.
* Strong CAD and 3D modelling abilities.
* Proficient in producing manufacturing drawings, with proven knowledge of GD&T.
* Competent in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office (including Excel).
* Good understanding of material properties and selection.
* Knowledge of manufacturing processes including steel fabrication, plastic injection moulding, casting, and finishing.
* Strong documentation skills with excellent attention to detail.
* Highly organised, with good time management.
* Capable of working independently and collaboratively.
* Strong problem-solving skills and commercial awareness.
* Flexible, professional approach.
* Valid driving licence and passport.
Desirable Skills & Experience
* Background in the furniture industry.
* Prototype development and New Product Introduction (NPI) experience.
* Familiarity with PDM systems for design control and release.
* Understanding of DFMEA/PFMEA processes.
* Knowledge of BS 8888:2013, ISO 9001:2015, and ISO 14001 standards.
* Layout and space planning experience.
* DriveWorks automation experience.
* Revit/BIM software knowledge.
* Adobe Creative Suite skills.
* Strong rendering and visualisation capabilities.
* Experience with SolidWorks Composer and FEA analysis.
* Exposure to overseas manufacturing.
* Willingness to travel internationally.
