Overview

This is an exciting part-time opportunity for a Practitioner Psychologist or Cognitive Behavioural Therapist to work in the Here for Staff service, supporting staff in the Acute and Rehabilitation Directorate (ARD). Here for Staff offers confidential support, consultation, guidance, and brief therapeutic interventions for staff and teams impacted by violence and aggression, racism, sexual harm and patient safety.

The postholder would be based at Goodmayes Hospital, with regular meetings with staff, matrons, and managers to build relationships and enable staff to recognise the impact of events and access support. The role includes individual and team support (face to face or virtual), consultation, and training as required.

The role suits those interested in developing staff support skills, providing psychoeducation, and fostering space for reflection and building team resilience. It supports NELFT\'s strategy to ensure wellbeing of staff and enhance patient safety.

Main duties of the job

* Provide a highly skilled psychological service for staff and teams referred to the Staff Support Service with three days for ARD involving brief NICE endorsed individual and group psychological interventions and psychoeducation (there may be some need for individual work).
* Employ core professional skills in using outcome measures and risk assessments.
* Provide psychoeducation to staff groups for preventative measures (e.g., stress management, mindfulness techniques). This could include one-off group sessions or up to eight designated sessions.
* Facilitate critical incident debriefing and support for individuals and teams.
* Work flexibly and independently as an autonomous clinical practitioner, with support from Staff Support service colleagues.
* Actively support reduced waiting times for staff and teams referred for support.
* Offer advice and consultation on staff psychological care to psychology and non-psychology colleagues, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the service policies and procedures.
* Expand the psychological component of Health and Wellbeing in the Trust, including preventative work addressing mental health and stress, and promoting health and well-being training events.
* Work closely with managers and teams to offer consultation, training, and supervision to non-psychology staff when required.
* Collaborate with colleagues across NELFT to demonstrate high clinical skill, multidisciplinary engagement, and flexibility.
* Utilise research skills for audits, policy and service development and research.
* Enhance the psychological profile of staff support by attending and contributing to in-house meetings and external specialist interest groups.
* Deliver a culturally and ethically sensitive, equitable service to all staff groups, involving staff users in design and delivery of the service.


About us

Starting with NELFT

NELFT places importance on proper induction for new starters. Induction is up to two weeks and includes mandatory training, systems training, and equipment allocation, with opportunities to meet the executive team and attend drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing. Induction takes place at the Trust head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post is subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt unless currently part way through probation or are a bank staff member. High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post attracts a High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum £4,714 and maximum £5,941 per annum pro rata).

Person Specification

Education

* Essential: HCPC registration as a psychological practitioner or BABCP registered practitioner

Desirable

* Additional specialist training in advanced therapy skills (e.g., CBT, EMDR, Mindfulness)

Interest

* Essential: Interest in working with staff teams post-critical incident and who are often highly stressed

Desirable

* Interest in developing new skills and techniques effective in staff support

Experience

* Essential: At least two years post-qualification experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of NHS service users
* Essential: At least two years post-qualification experience delivering psychological interventions to diverse client groups
* Desirable: Experience delivering group/psycho-education work

Teaching

* Essential: Experience of teaching, training, and/or supervision
* Desirable: Experience of supporting and supervising research projects, audits and service evaluations

Skills

* Essential: Well-developed communication skills with staff and professional colleagues post-incident and high stress
* Desirable: Skills in providing consultation to professional colleagues
