Engagement and Development Worker
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: £26,549.63 (£27,722.51 after 18 months successful performance)
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 9am-5pm

Job Overview
Collaborate with a committed team to deliver outstanding service and personalised programmes that put customers first, helping them achieve their goals and aspirations. Develop programmes of activities across services that are co‑created and co‑produced with customers, linking with external organisations to maximise individual growth.
Responsibilities
* Engage customers to meet agreed outcomes and develop independent living skills, delivering best practice support appropriate to their needs.
* Co‑produce and co‑create Riverside’s commitment statement with customers across services, encouraging a high level of customer involvement, empowering consultation and communication.
* Apply for grants and fundraising for planned activities and events.
* Encourage and support customers to lead their own interest groups and activity sessions.
* Market programme of activities to ensure all customers have opportunities and are encouraged to participate.
* Identify and promote opportunities for employment, education and training, supporting customers to remove barriers.
* Deliver a programme of internal and external activities reflecting different customer needs, including culture and diversity.
* Carry out regular surveys and inclusion solutions to ensure the activities programme meets the needs of all customers.
* Signpost customers to appropriate external support services such as food banks and other community resources.
* Support customers to maintain financial independence through budgeting plans and maximising income.
* Ensure the safety of customers by following local safeguarding procedures, recognising and acting on risks, and escalating appropriately.
* Ensure service delivery complies with Riverside’s equality and diversity policies.
* Design and update a service directory for external signposting.
* Ensure customer views are fully considered in service development and delivery.
* Develop and maintain local partnerships to provide holistic support, liaising to facilitate access.
* Assist recruitment and coordination of volunteers and student placements.
* Produce and distribute activity programmes, ensuring content is appealing and up to date.
* Maintain organised notice boards with corporate branded materials.
* Advise and advocate on behalf of customers.
* Work with colleagues to meet key performance indicators.
* Record and update accurate, strengths‑based customer and statistical information on digital platforms.
* Work flexible hours outside normal office hours to meet customer needs.
* Carry out local travel when required to meet customers.
* Use the Lone Worker system as necessary.
* Ensure customer safety in line with Riverside’s policies (health & safety, safeguarding, dignity at work, GDPR, cash handling).
* Deliver role in line with Riverside company values – “Our Riverside Way”.
* Participate in team meetings, regular supervisions and reflective practice sessions.
* Undertake training and continuous development to deliver the role safely.
* Perform additional duties and responsibilities as required in consultation with line manager.
Qualifications
Essential
* Understanding of barriers faced by vulnerable and diverse customer groups, including those with complex needs.
* Ability to work on own initiative.
* Knowledge of risk assessment and health and safety requirements.
* Experience devising and delivering activity programmes within supported housing.
* Team player with a caring, empathetic, flexible, resilient, can‑do attitude.
* Excellent time‑management and communication skills.
* Ability to demonstrate initiative and confidence to make and act on decisions.
* Competent administrative and IT skills; ability to produce reports and communications.
Desirable
* Knowledge of psychological or trauma‑informed approaches to support.
* Experience working in challenging environments with ability to plan, prioritise and organise tasks to achieve results.
* Experience working in a care and support environment.
