Clerk of Works / Fire Protection Inspector - Residential New Build & Refurbishment
Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 + package
A leading construction consultancy is seeking an experienced Clerk of Works / Fire Protection Inspector to join their growing team. The role will involve working across a varied portfolio of residential new-build and refurbishment projects, with regular site inspections to ensure quality, compliance, and fire safety standards are met.
This position would suit an individual with experience as a Clerk of works or someone with strong on-site Quality inspection experience, particularly within residential developments and higher-risk buildings. The successful candidate will play a key role in quality assurance, fire safety compliance, and reporting across multiple live projects.
Role Overview
-Title: Clerk of Works / Fire Protection Inspector
-Location: Various sites Reading, Poole, Bournemouth (South West of England)
-Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 per annum
-Start: ASAP but happy to wait for notice period for the right person
-Type: Permanent
Responsibilities
-Carry out regular site inspections on residential new-build and refurbishment projects
-Monitor contractor compliance with drawings, specifications, Building Regulations, warranties, and Employer's Requirements
-Inspect and verify fire safety installations including fire doors, fire stopping, drylining, masonry work, and sprinkler systems
-Ensure compliance with Approved Document B, BS 9999, and other relevant fire safety standards
-Identify non-compliance issues, raise defects, and recommend corrective actions
-Undertake snagging inspections prior to Practical Completion and issue defect lists
-Prepare detailed inspection reports using tablet-based reporting systems
-Maintain accurate records of inspections, actions, and compliance documentation
-Liaise with consultants, design teams, contractors, and other stakeholders
-Attend project meetings and provide input on quality assurance and fire safety matters
-Promote best practice, quality awareness, and compliance on site
Requirements
-Background in Quality Inspection
-Willingness to travel (Driving required - mileage reimbursed)
-Strong knowledge of fire safety regulations and standards (including Approved Document B, BS 9999, BS 9991)
-Experience inspecting residential developments and higher-risk buildings
-Proven experience with façade remediation projects is desirable
-Fire door inspection experience
-Membership of ICWCI or equivalent (preferred but not essential)
-Additional professional memberships (MCIOB, RICS, IFE) advantageous
