Job Role: Project Design Lead
Location: Falmer, Brighton (Hybrid)
Salary: £60,000 to £68,000 (dependent on experience)
About the Role:
This is a rare opportunity to lead the technical design of high-impact, large-scale water infrastructure projects. As a Project Design Lead, you'll take a central role in delivering a £400M capital investment programme across five strategically important surface water treatment sites. You'll lead multidisciplinary design teams, promote innovation and sustainability, and ensure that designs meet environmental, operational, and customer expectations.
Key responsibilities include:
Ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and health, safety, environmental, and quality standards
Leading multidisciplinary design teams to deliver robust, cost-effective engineering solutions
Driving standardisation and innovation in design processes
Promoting digital design tools and sustainable engineering practices
Monitoring design progress against programme milestones
Managing budgets, tracking costs, and forecasting in collaboration with project teams
Aligning technical design decisions with customer, regulatory, and stakeholder needs
Representing the company at industry events and contributing to thought leadership
About you:
Degree or HND/HNC in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
Chartered (or working towards) with a recognised professional institution
Proven experience in project management and engineering, ideally within the water or utilities sector
Strong understanding of health & safety standards and regulatory frameworks
Collaborative, innovative mindset with the ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams
