An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Ward Manager to work as part of a dedicated team within the Inpatient Forensic Team based at Langdon, in Dawlish.
The role is dynamic and challenging and we are looking for someone who is highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic who can demonstrate an eagerness for the ongoing development of the service.
You would be joining us at an exciting time as our service continues to develop.
You will need excellent communication and leadership skills to ensure collaborative work with service users, utilising the wellbeing and recovery model, to provide the highest quality of care.
This role will require the post-holder to provide strong, practical and clinical leadership with the highest regard to valuing and supporting your team. You will have the confidence and skills to support your team to respond to both the physical and mental well‑being needs of your patients in partnership with a multi‑disciplinary team and be a strong advocate for your patients.
Successful candidates will need to demonstrate a sound experience of risk assessment and management and will be committed to the principles of service user and carer involvement; as well as showing expertise in budgetary management and being able to understand and meet performance criteria.
Main duties of the job

You will have experience of working in a team. The role involves communication, so we expect that you have excellent verbal and written skills.
Interacting with patients and the public you will be confident in giving non‑clinical information and advice that improves their experience. Dealing with sensitive information daily, you will understand the importance of data security.
You will often work under pressure and without direct supervision, so we are looking for someone confident and capable. You will prioritise tasks, and manage your own workload, providing support for your colleagues where required.
You will become an important part of the team, working to ensure that every patient receives high quality care. You may be required to support the induction of new staff members, demonstrating activities to them and providing supervision to support administrators.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of monitoring staff performance, managerial experience. Several years proven experience at a middle managerial post in a mental health setting.
* Experience of working within a forensic setting.
* Experience of working with criminal justice agencies.
* Proven experience in Medicines Management.
Knowledge and Skills
* Knowledge of mental health issues.
* Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and the Code of Practice.
* Knowledge of the CPA process and the Mental Capacity Act.
* Knowledge of government guidance/issues surrounding standards of care and audit requirements.
* Understanding of recovery principles in mental health.
Qualifications
* Post registration qualification and experience in a health or social care subject (e.g. RMN, RGN, Social Work, OT, Psychology) and evidence of continuing professional development.
* Recognised management training and qualification or willingness to work toward it.
