Applications are invited for a Fellow in Upper GI, based in Raigmore Hospital.
The successful applicant will have a broad experience of general and gastrointestinal surgery that complements the subspecialty interests that currently exist within this cohesive department. It is our vision that this post will support and enhance the surgical services delivered across NHS Highland – both in elective UGI and General Surgery, but also within acute Surgical care.

Supported by a team of 8 consultants, 1 Specialty Doctor and 2 Clinical Nurse Specialists you will play a pivotal role in providing excellent care to our outpatients, inpatients and provide assessment of emergency admissions, when required.
There will be the opportunity to run operating and endoscopy lists, in a supportive environment, dependent on individual’s preference and long-term career development wishes. The post will operate at least one out-patient clinic per week.
This is a one-off opportunity to develop within an extremely busy acute setting, allowing the post-holder involvement in duties which will be of personal educational value.
The General Surgical Service is supported by new and excellent ITU/HDU facilities; a radiology department with modern cross sectional imaging with two CT scanners and two MRI scanners; a JAG accredited endoscopy unit and theatres with full range of laparoscopic equipment. Raigmore Hospital is one of the five cancer centres in Scotland. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy and neo-adjuvant chemoradiation are administered on site. We are a highly active research unit; projects include biomarker discovery, telemedicine apps, clinical trials, simulation in training, clinical education and we recruit to a high proportion of current clinical trials. The wider Department includes Vascular, Breast and Urology teams, and there are visiting paediatric, plastic and neurosurgical consultant staff.
Out with the work environment, being based in the Highlands of Scotland, the great outdoors are on your doorstep and allows for tremendous opportunity to sample the best scenery and outdoor activities in the world.
