Mō tēnei tūranga mahi - About the role

We have an opportunity for an inspiring leader to join our team. We are looking for that special person who leads from the heart, recognises, celebrates, and encourages the strengths of others, and looks to support the professional growth and development of kaiako.

We have a primary caregiving approach that supports strong, trusting relationships with tamariki and whanau, ensuring that a sense of well‑being and belonging is nurtured. We are a team of dedicated, professional, and experienced kaiako, who are attuned and intentional in our practice. We aim to create an inspiring space for tamariki, planning and preparing an environment that sparks a sense of wonder, imagination, and fun, and one which provokes curiosity and exploration.

* Lead the team in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the environment and experiences that support the ongoing learning and development of tamariki in a safe, warm, and nurturing environment
* Model authentic ways of working in partnership with parents and whānau, including welcoming new tamariki and their whānau into the centre, maintaining records of observations and progress of children through learning stories, and supporting whānau contribution through open communication
* Demonstrate a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga and te reo Māori
* Build and maintain a positive team culture with all kaiako and kaimahi, developing a strong sense of purpose, unity, and commitment within the team
* Model and encourage all kaiako in the importance of ongoing learning, professional development and self‑evaluation through valuable conversations, honest development feedback and at times courageous conversations
* Ensure all relevant and legislative policies are always adhered to

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako - Skills/Experience

We are looking for a warm, values‑led Head Teacher who brings energy, creativity and genuine care to their leadership. You’ll be a fully Registered Early Childhood Teacher with a Diploma of Teaching (ECE) or Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (Early Childhood), ready to lead a team and support high‑quality learning for tamariki.

Ideally, you’ll also bring:

* A current First Aid Certificate
* A strong understanding of Te Whāriki and the wider ECE curriculum framework
* Experience in curriculum planning, alongside confidence in centre operations, administration, and implementing policies and procedures
* The ability to build trusting, respectful relationships with kaiako, tamariki and whānau from a wide range of backgrounds
* A positive, engaging presence and a genuine commitment to nurturing young children
* Proven leadership capability, with strong organisation and clear communication
* Sound knowledge of child development, and the ability to guide and support others in this area
* Self‑awareness and a commitment to your own ongoing growth, with the resilience to lead through the day-to-day of a busy centre.

This is a role for someone who leads with heart, supports their team well, and helps create an environment where both tamariki and kaiako can thrive.
