Role Overview
We are looking for a Junior Risk Analyst to join our Group Risk Desk.
This role will ideally suit a high calibre individual with 1 to 2 years’ work experience looking to further their career and develop experience in commodities risk. We will also consider fresh graduates who can demonstrate an interest in risk, markets, commodities and a strong desire to learn.
The role will provide the opportunity to be involved in a variety of risk control activities supporting the Market Risk Managers and overall Risk team. The role will involve extensive exposure to senior management and therefore provides an excellent opportunity for an individual to develop a career in risk management with further specialisation. There is no opportunity to move from this role to a trading position.
Responsibilities
The main focus of the role will be on market risk but responsibilities will cover a broad spectrum of risk management including:
* Supporting risk managers in monitoring, analysing, and reporting risk metrics.
* Preparation of position and P&L reports for the Commodities Trading desk’s books on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
* Risk measurement and limit checking, including validation of input data and parameters used in the risk models.
* Develop a detailed understanding of the Group’s in-house software systems and monitoring and improving risk system interfaces.
* Exposure reporting across all Business Units, with an investigation into any outliers or limit breaches.
* Assist in value-added risk and financial modelling to support risk and PnL scenario analysis to support trading desk forecasting and budget .
* Daily check and documentation of forward curves used for position valuation against available market data from Information Services, Journals, and Brokers.
* Proactively monitoring the assigned portfolio by tracking the industry / economic/ regulatory developments, counterparty-related news, and other early warning indicators.
* Ongoing liaison with colleagues globally across all commodities, as well as external stakeholders where necessary.
* Supporting the Risk Managers/Senior Managers in the preparation of Risk Committee papers and presentations.
* Involvement in ad hoc projects.
Person Specification
The ideal applicant will have up to 2 years’ experience. There is no requirement for this to be within a risk department, however knowledge or understanding of markets, commodities, and derivatives will be an advantage. We are looking for:
* Financial awareness, highly numerate with excellent academic record.
* Knowledge and experience of the commodity markets for both exchange listed products and OTC derivatives (Swaps, Options).
* Knowledge of various risk metrics such as VaR, volatility, positions management, credit scoring, stress testing, liquidity management, etc.
* Good general IT skills, particularly the use of Excel and the ability to understand system workflow logic and methodology.
* Ability to perform under pressure, efficiently organise workload and meet deadlines.
* Highly developed inter-personal skills, sensitivity to local cultural differences and the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner are important to the role.
* Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate with various stakeholders, such as front office traders, finance, logistics, and clients spread across different time zones.
* Attention to detail is essential.
