Operations Manager (Warehouse & Transport) – Planning & Flow
Wigston | On-site | Full-time, permanent | £45,000–£55,000 DOE
Own inbound-to-outbound flow in a high-volume FMCG/3PL environment. Plan containers, manage carriers, drive OTIF and dock-to-stock, and set a calm daily rhythm. WMS/ERP + Excel + continuous improvement mindset essential.
About the company:
Long-established, independently owned supplier that has scaled from 1970s roots to high-volume supply for major brands. Growth has outpaced infrastructure. We’re hiring an Operations Manager to tighten planning/procedures and create predictable execution—enhance what works; don’t redesign it.
The opportunity:
Be the connective tissue between inbound, warehouse and outbound so stock lands on time, moves cleanly, and ships right-first-time. You’ll own the daily operating rhythm and handle seasonal peaks (c. 25 containers/week in season).
What you’ll do:
* Orchestrate inbound → storage → outbound to hit service and cost targets.
* Peak pressure planning: capacity, labour and space for seasonal surges (c. 25 containers/week).
* Haulier/carrier management: slotting, OTIF performance, exceptions and recovery.
* Promo readiness: stock, space, labour and carrier bookings in place ahead of launch.
* Run a daily rhythm: stand-ups/stand-downs, dashboards, actions, escalations.
* Write practical SOPs and training that embed a consistent “house way.”
What success looks like:
* 90 days: mapped flows; weekly rhythm live (inbound plan, labour/capacity, haulier schedule, exceptions).
* 6 months: dock-to-stock ≤ 24h; OTIF ≥ 98.5%; pick ≥ 99.5%; SLAs live; near-zero demurrage; promo playbook running.
* 12 months: predictable seasonality; SOPs embedded; clear dashboards; smoother load on MD & Warehouse Ops.
About you
* Proven in high-volume warehousing/distribution (FMCG/consumer or similar).
* Confident scheduling containers and managing carriers/hauliers.
* WMS/ERP-savvy, strong Excel; you make data-led decisions.
* Calm under pressure; sleeves-rolled-up and solution-focused.
* An enhancer, not a bulldozer, you improve what already works.
Open to step-ups:
If you’re currently an Assistant Operations Manager, Senior Shift Manager, Planning Lead, or Transport/Flow Coordinator and can evidence ownership of container scheduling, carrier performance, and a daily warehouse rhythm (OTIF, dock-to-stock, pick accuracy), we’d like to hear from you. If your results show you’re ready, we’ll consider you on merit.
What’s on offer
* £45,000–£55,000 DOE
* Pension scheme
* Annual salary reviews
* Closure for Christmas
* On-site leadership role with genuine scope to shape the operation
* Clear progression based on results and impact
