Principal Environmental Health Officer / Environmental Health Officer
Midlothian Council, the fastest growing local authority in Scotland, has an opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our Public Health Environmental Protection Team. Applications are considered for either a Principal Environmental Health Officer or an Environmental Health Officer.
The successful candidate will undertake enforcement roles in accordance with the outlined Job Description and criteria below.
This role offers hybrid working, combining remote and office-based work.

Environmental Health Officer - Grade 8 Salary £41,802.34
Knowledge
A degree or equivalent in Environmental Health plus a postgraduate Diploma from the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) or equivalent.
Travel throughout the area is essential; a driving license and access to a car are required.
Principal Environmental Health Officer - Grade 9 Salary £46,511.92
Knowledge
Essential: A degree or equivalent in Environmental Health plus a postgraduate Diploma from REHIS or equivalent. Competency in assessment and enforcement across statutory regimes related to Public Health and Environmental Protection. Travel is essential, requiring a driving license and car.
Desirable: Chartered Member of REHIS or working towards Chartered status. Additional relevant qualifications in specialist or management fields.
Experience
Essential: Extensive knowledge and experience in Environmental Health, understanding of statutory regulations, and awareness of upcoming legislation.
Desirable: Significant post-qualification experience, understanding of local government processes, experience managing staff.
