Overview
Our team based in Northampton provides essential distribution services within the healthcare sector, supporting both hospital and patient‑at‑home care from our central NDC. We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Senior Operations Manager.
Role Description
Reporting into the General Manager, you will lead a team of four direct reports and approximately 100 indirect reports, plus agency resources during peak periods. You will develop and motivate the team, embed training and succession plans, manage absence and holiday cover, and ensure operational SLAs and KPIs are met. You will oversee day‑to‑day operational performance, health and safety, quality and service delivery targets, and report on successes while investigating and implementing remedial actions. Your role will contribute to financial and operational targets, collaborate with wider departments to exceed client requests, and represent the organisation at customer and client meetings to report on operational activities, address concerns, and implement corrective solutions. You will also take an active approach to site‑based projects, improving operational efficiencies and driving best‑practice approaches.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead a team of transport professionals and drivers in a temperature‑controlled fleet environment.
* Manage training, succession planning, and absence coverage to maintain service levels.
* Ensure health and safety, quality, and service delivery targets are met.
* Report on performance, investigate issues, and implement corrective actions.
* Collaborate with other departments to exceed client expectations.
* Represent the organisation at customer and client meetings.
* Drive and manage site‑based improvement projects.
* Contribute to financial and operational targets.
Qualifications
To be successful you will be a strong operations manager with experience leading and developing teams of transport professionals, ideally within a healthcare or temperature‑controlled transport environment. You will possess excellent leadership, customer focus, and stakeholder management skills, with a proven record of driving innovation, change, and continuous improvement initiatives. Strong communication, presentation, and problem‑solving abilities are required, as is resilience and sound decision‑making.

Work Location
Main site in Northampton; occasional travel to Leeds, Exeter, Redditch, Dartford, and Irlam may be required. A full clean UK driving licence is required.
