Consultant Community CAMHS Psychiatrist – Eating Disorder SET CAMHS Team Employer: NELFT North East London Foundation Trust
Location: Widford Hall, Tattersall Way Chelmsford, Essex CM2 STD
The successful candidate will work with multidisciplinary teams to provide care to children and young people with eating disorders and other comorbid mental health needs across Essex. The service operates from two main bases.
Main duties of the job The consultant will provide senior medical support, direct clinical input, guidance and supervision to the team, coordinate care with external CAMHS providers and acute hospitals, and support the physical monitoring of patients with eating disorders by working with a part‑time Consultant Acute Paediatrician. The post includes on‑call duties on a 1:7 rota, providing telephone advice to crisis teams in Southend, Essex and Thurrock.
Responsibilities
Organise and prioritise own and others' workload in the day‑to‑day allocation of work.
Deputise in team manager’s absence and delegate appropriately to other medical staff.
Maintain organisational knowledge of Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them.
Provide accurate records for audit purposes.
Ensure effective risk management at team level, including incident reporting, risk assessment and inclusion of residual risks in the Trust’s risk register.
Qualifications
Inclusion in, or eligibility for inclusion in, the Specialist Register for Psychiatry or within 6 months of obtaining CCT.
Approved Clinician status, or eligibility for it.
Experience in managing patients from different cultural backgrounds.
Experience working with interpreters and translators.
Awareness of NHS strategic and clinical governance priorities.
Understanding of change management.

Benefits and working pattern Substantive post funded as eight programmed activities with a 10 PA, 7.5 direct clinical contact activities (DCC) and 2.5 supporting professional activities (SPAs). An optional 11th PA is available under a fixed‑term contract to support audit, research or quality improvement projects. Flexible working, including job share, part‑time and remote sessions, is available.
On‑call responsibilities Participate in a senior psychiatrist out‑of‑hours on‑call rota (1:7 frequency, 2% basic salary). Rota covers 17:00–09:00 Monday–Friday and all day on weekends and bank holidays.
