About The Role
Keeping people safe from Northern Ireland Related Terrorism (NIRT) is a UK Government strategic aim. The Security & Protection Group (SPG) in the NIO delivers this through core teams including Casework and Protection. The role involves supporting the National Security Casework and Protection team, with responsibilities across home protection, firearms appeals, explosive precursor licensing and compensation claims. You will assist in running the home protection maintenance line. Strong communication and relationship management are essential. You will administer the NIO Explosive Precursor licensing scheme and Firearms Appeal regime.
You will be articulate, discreet and thoughtful, quick to learn, proactive, with high responsibility and autonomy. You should be able to prioritise competing tasks and work at pace, with good judgement and strong interpersonal skills.
Duties And Responsibilities
* Cover the Home Protection Scheme (HPS) maintenance line, deal with the public, log issues, and pass on to caseworkers or contractors for resolution.
* Administration of invoices for the home protection scheme.
* Administration of firearms appeals, including handling incoming requests, gathering information from security partners, providing updates, and supporting caseworkers.
* Administration of explosive precursor licensing, progression of applications, and issuing licences.
Essential Criteria
* The ability to develop and maintain effective responsive relationships with colleagues, customers and stakeholders, using interpersonal skills to achieve results.
* Ability to self-organise, prioritise and pay attention to detail; capable of overseeing the administration of schemes to ensure efficient delivery of service.
* You should have, or be willing to undertake, national security vetting to SC level.
Desirable Criteria
* Understanding of the political and security environment in Northern Ireland.
* Experience of financial administration, including paying invoices and using Account NI.
* Experience of a customer-facing role, dealing with members of the public.
