We are recruiting a Mechanical Maintenance Plant Fitter to join our team based at Tarmac Jericho Bridge Quarry in Locharbriggs, Dumfries and Galloway. The role is accessible from nearby towns including Lochmaben, Lockerbie, Thornhill, Moffat, Castle Douglas, New Galloway, Carlisle and surrounding areas.

Role – Reporting to the Site Management Team, the Mechanical Maintenance Plant Fitter is part of the 24/7 engineering function at Jericho Bridge Quarry in Dumfries.
Responsibilities
* Respond to plant breakdowns to restore production promptly, following up with permanent solutions
* Undertake emergency breakdown repairs on production equipment in a timely and efficient manner
* Own small-scale projects and deliver them pragmatically and proactively
* Take a cost-conscious approach to maintenance activities
* Coordinate with contractors and suppliers on site
* Participate in root cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures
* Contribute to continuous improvement of the engineering function
* Weld and fabricate to a good standard
* Work with risk assessments and method statements
* Contribute to safe working methods for repair procedures
* Maintain and promote Health & Safety rules and company procedures
* Challenge unsafe conditions and report them via company procedures
* Utilise the computerised maintenance management system and record all work
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work with minimal supervision. Experience in an industrial, factory or similar environment is required.
* Strong, practical mechanical systems background (heavy industry preferred): conveyors, drive systems, motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, vibratory screens
* Fault-finding ability to identify defects and recommend actions
* Ability to undertake emergency breakdown repairs on all production equipment
* Strong IT skills (PCs, common applications, company systems)
* Ability to assess SHE risks and control them
* Knowledge of site-specific SHE procedures and Safe Working Practices
* Recognised apprenticeship (preferably higher-level)
* ONC/HNC (desirable but not essential)
